What’s the deal with “IP55”?
If you see “IP55” on a box, it basically means the thing is built for a fight. It’s protected against dust and can handle water jets hitting it from any angle. In a bathroom, steam is the enemy. It gets into everything. A standard heater will often short out or start corroding the moment the room gets foggy. An IP55 housing seals the wiring and the heating element away from the moisture. It keeps the guts of the machine dry, which means it doesn’t just work better—it lasts longer.
Infrared is just different
The old lamps try to heat the air. That takes forever and wastes a ton of electricity. Infrared doesn’t bother with the air. Instead, it sends out waves that heat you and the surfaces around you directly. It feels like stepping into a beam of sunlight. You flip the switch, and you feel the warmth instantly. Depending on how high your ceilings are, we pick different emitters. If you’ve got a lot of headspace, we go with shortwave. It travels in a straight line, so the heat actually reaches you instead of disappearing into the rafters.
A few things to watch out for
Nothing is perfect. Because these heaters are sealed tight to keep water out, they can trap heat around the internal driver. **Don’t cram them into a tight ceiling soffit.**If the heat sink can’t breathe, the unit will think it’s overheating and shut itself off. Give it some room to vent. Also, don’t just plug these into any old outlet. These arrays pull a lot of power. You’ll want a dedicated circuit and the right cable gauge. If you skimp on the wiring, you’ll deal with voltage drops, and you won’t get that punchy heat you’re paying for.
