When you’re building a bathroom heater, you’re basically playing a balancing act. You want that instant, deep heat, but you can’t have it coming at the cost of someone’s eyesight or skin. Especially if there are babies in the house. You have to be careful about the light coming off those lamps so you don’t accidentally burn a retina or irritate sensitive skin. The battle against the glare Standard short-wave lamps are bright. Like, really bright. They throw off a lot of visible light and a bit of UV, which is a recipe for a headache. To fix this, we use special coatings or filtered quartz glass. Think of it as a pair of sunglasses for the heater. It pushes the light away from those harsh blue tones and turns it into a soft, warm glow. You still get that deep heat soaking into your skin, but you aren’t squinting the whole time you’re drying off. Keeping the water out (and the heat moving) Water and electricity don’t mix. Simple as that. That’s why we tuck these lamps into IP65-rated boxes. In plain English? It’s dust-tight and can take a spray of water from any angle without breaking a sweat. We use high-temp silicone gaskets to seal the wires, so nothing leaks in. But here’s the tricky part: if you make the box too small to save space, you’re basically building an oven for your own electronics. The heat gets trapped, and things start to fry. We use aluminum heat sinks to pull that heat away from the guts of the machine, which keeps the outer shell from warping after a few dozen uses. The trade-off Look, there’s no such thing as a free lunch. When you filter the light for safety, you lose a tiny bit of raw power. A filtered lamp isn’t going to heat a room as fast as some industrial halogen tube you’d find in a factory. It’s a trade-off. You lose a bit of speed, but you gain a product that won’t hurt anyone. Just a heads-up if you’re installing a bunch of these at once: make sure your circuit breakers can handle that initial surge when the filaments kick in. They pull a lot of juice right at the start.
