That’s not exactly the “spa vibe” you’re going for, especially if you’ve got kids or babies who can’t just look away from a bright light. The goal is simple: get the heat on your skin, but keep the glare out of your eyes.
The Trick to the Glow
Standard infrared lamps usually blast out this harsh, blinding white light. It’s stressful on the eyes. To fix this, we mess around with the coatings on the quartz glass or tweak the gas inside the filament. Basically, we filter out the bright stuff and push the energy toward a longer wave. You still feel that cozy warmth the second you turn it on, but you aren’t squinting the whole time. Sure, it takes a tiny bit longer to hit peak temperature than a raw, unfiltered tube, but it’s a trade-off worth making so you don’t feel like you’re in an operating room.
Fighting the Steam
Bathrooms are brutal on electronics. Between the steam and the splashes, water finds a way into everything. To stop your heater from quitting on you, we use sealed quartz glass and heavy-duty gaskets where the wires connect. It keeps the moisture away from the live parts. We stick to high IP ratings because a short circuit in a damp bathroom is a nightmare nobody wants to deal with.
A Few Things to Watch During Install
Before you plug everything in, check your wiring. These heaters are power-hungry for the first few seconds they’re warming up. If your circuit breakers are a bit old or under-powered, you’re going to be flipping the switch back on every time the timer kicks in. Two quick tips: Use high-temp wiring. You don’t want the insulation melting near the lamp housing. And give the fixture some breathing room. If you cram it too tight into the ceiling, the heat just traps itself up there, which kills the lamp way faster than it should.
